Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released their May Employment Report. While there were 431,000 new jobs reported in the month of May, 412,000 of those jobs went to temporary government census workers. Congressman Mike Conaway (R-TX-11) made this statement following the announcement:
“At first look, this month’s job report appeared to be positive news. However, 96 percent of last month’s job growth will be eliminated in a mere few weeks when the census is complete. President Obama’s prediction that we would see strong job growth did not develop, and as long as he continues to pass job-killing legislation such as the health care overhaul, the Wall Street bailout, and a national energy tax, we are going to see nothing but jobs flat line. Today’s misleading numbers prove that the Democrats economic policies are not working, and it is my hope that we can work together in a bipartisan manner toward a fiscally conservative, common sense plan to lower the deficit and get Americans back to work."
