Washington–Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) issued the following statement in response to President Obama’s last budget, which was released today:
“President Obama’s final budget proposal is full of lofty, liberal ideals without an ounce of practicality. In addition to sentencing future generations of Americans to higher taxes and mounting debt, the Obama Administration’s budget threatens to undermine an already weak U.S. economy by dealing a severe blow to America’s farmers and ranchers who have already suffered a 56 percent drop in net farm income over the past two years.
“In addition to harming our nation’s farmers and ranchers, the President’s budget proposal includes a $10 per barrel ‘fee’ on oil to pay for his radical climate change agenda. The Congressional Research Service has already found that this tax could slow economic growth, yet another move by the Obama Administration that will cripple our nation.
"President Obama has made his priorities very clear, and those don’t include getting our country back on track. This final budget proposal again reflects the agenda of a president who is out of touch with the everyday concerns and lives of working families in America.”
