Democrats Deny Conaway’s Request to Protect Abortion Survivors
Washington– Tuesday, Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) asked Democrats for Unanimous Consent to consider H.R. 962, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. His request was denied, as were the 25 requests other Republican members of the House of Representatives have made over the last month.
“Children who are born alive after an attempted abortion deserve access to the same standard of medical attention as any other baby born at a similar age,” said Congressman Conaway. “It is unfathomable that we have to define killing a baby born alive as murder, but it’s absolutely tragic that Democrats are refusing to even consider this legislation to protect the lives of innocent children.
“We may be told ‘no’ every time we ask Democrats to protect the sanctity of human life, but we won’t stop asking. If we allow babies to be killed after birth, where does the line defining murder get drawn? Infanticide cannot, and will not, be the acceptable norm in this country.”
On Monday, Conaway introduced the Second Chance at Life Act, a bill requiring doctors to inform women seeking a chemical abortion that the abortion can potentially be stopped and reversed in order to save the baby, if she changes her mind after taking the first dose. National Right to Life has announced its support for both the Second Chance at Life Act and the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.
