Conaway: Congress Shouldn’t Restrict Trump’s Ability to Protect U.S. Citizens
Thursday, Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement after voting against Democrat-sponsored legislation to restrict President Trump’s ability to protect the United States against foreign adversaries:
“The decision to go to war is the most somber decision a nation can make. Unfortunately, House Democrats have chosen to approach this serious topic in a flippant, unprecedented, and restrictive manner. Instead of allowing a serious and thorough debate on the current Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF) in the House, Democrats intentionally limited discussion on the legislation and denied Republicans the opportunity to introduce amendments and the traditional procedural right afforded to the minority party to make improvements to the bill.
“This resolution cripples U.S. national security and threatens the safety of Americans globally. It disarms the President of his ability to respond to ongoing threats from Iran and its proxies, and emboldens the Iranian regime by falsely signaling to the world that we are not united against terrorism.”
