Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and the 11th District.

WHEN: Thursday, March 10, 2:00-3:00 PM
WHERE: The First National Bank of Sterling City, Board Room, 602 4th Street
WHAT: Coleman Town Hall Meeting
WHEN: Friday, March 11, 9:30-10:30 AM

Lady Hawks Head to State Finals
Tomorrow morning, the Wall High School Lady Hawks will take on the Brock High School Lady Eagles in the State Championship game. This game will be a rematch of the state final two years ago, when Wall defeated Brock, ending Brock's five year run as state champions.
It should be a great game. Good luck to both teams- but especially to the Lady Hawks, who are from the 11th District!
Texas Independence Day
This week, we celebrated Texas Independence Day. One man, William Barret Travis, is cemented in history as a hero of the Texas Revolution who we celebrate to this day. While the Alamo was under attack, he wrote for help saying:
“The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken—I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls. I shall never surrender or retreat.”
He led roughly 200 Alamo defenders, most of whom were in their twenties. These men had no idea if help was on the way, and they didn’t know that in a different part of the state, the Texas Declaration of Independence was being signed. They fought with brave determination nevertheless. Their heroism and decision to fight Santa Anna until the end will never be forgotten. He ended his letter saying:
“If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country—Victory or Death.”
Travis died fighting in the end, and did not see the lasting impact his patriotic sacrifice had on Texas history. However, it is important that we never forget all that Travis did to free Texas and make it the extraordinary place that it is today.

Sincerely,

Rep. Mike Conaway, 11th District
