Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and the 11th District.

Congressional Art Competition

Last weekend, students from across the 11th District gathered in San Angelo, Texas for the 2016 Congressional Art Competition. We had a great turnout, with over 40 students entering the competition!

Candice Cirilo of Odessa High School was named the winner of the Art Competition, and her piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the next year with the other winning pieces from all over the country. Her piece is titled "Joshua."

A big thank you to Dr. Brian May and Angelo State University for providing their West Texas Collections Gallery as the venue, and their faculty who served as judges. It was also wonderful to have San Angelo Mayor Dwain Morrison in attendance as well to celebrate the artistic talents of these students!

Visiting Klondike, a Blue Ribbon School

Last week, I had the pleasure of visiting Klondike ISD in Lamesa, Texas, one of just 25 National Blue Ribbon Schools in Texas. This accomplishment is well deserved, as Klondike truly embodies the spirit of the Blue Ribbon program through the creative and supportive learning environment they have established for their students.

I got to see some of the things the students are working on, like the robotics project in the picture below. I also had the opportunity to congratulate the entire student body, the teachers, and the administrators for all the work they've done to make Klondike the terrific school that it is. A big thank you to Principal Tony Bushong and Superintendent Steve McLaren for taking the time to host this visit.

Military Service Academies

One of my greatest honors as a U.S. Representative is nominating young men and women to our military service academies. This year, Ethan Azam was accepted into three service academies, and has decided to attend the Air Force Academy. CBS 7 interviewed Ethan about this impressive accomplishment, which can be found at this link.

For students interested in attending a service academy, I would encourage you to start preparing early. I’m incredibly proud of Ethan and all of the other students in District 11 that seek or receive appointments to our nation’s military academies.

As always, you can follow me on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.

Sincerely,

Rep. Mike Conaway, 11th District
