Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and the 11th District.
Heating Bills:
I voted for several bills this week to lower the cost for families using electricity, gas, and propane to heat their homes. This has been a very cold winter in Texas. I know that many of your home heating bills have been twice what they normally are. The legislation that I voted for would increase domestic energy supplies and bring down energy costs and home heating costs for working families. House Republicans are passing legislation that would help American families. Senate Democrats and the president should join us in this effort to help bring down heating costs.
Supporting Our Friends:
This week I voted for legislation that would support America's friends and keep our enemies in check. I voted for a bill that would provide loan guarantees to the new Ukrainian government and a resolution that offers support to the people of Venezuela as they protest peacefully for democratic change and calls for end to the violence. The House also voted on a bill that I co-sponsored to strengthen the relationship between the United States and Israel.
Letter on Negotiations with Iran:
This week I signed a letter to President Obama about negotiations that aim to keep Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. The letter calls on the president to be vigilant during these negotiations. The letter also reminds the President that Congress is his partner because long-term sanctions relief will require congressional action. Finally, we urge the President to keep all options on the table to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
Energy Security is National Security:
As a member of both the House Armed Services and Intelligence Committees, I am closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine. The aggressive actions of Russian leader Vladimir Putin are unacceptable. Back in January, House Speaker John Boehner called Vladimir Putin "a thug" and said that he was treating Russia's neighbor's in a “disrespectful way.” At that time, Speaker Boehner also said, President Obama “ought to stand up to (Vladimir Putin) and better protect America’s interests and our allies, especially in Eastern Europe.” There is no guarantee that if the President had taken a stronger stand, the situation would be different, but I am certain that a more forceful approach is in America's interest. America is not the world's police force, but we stand for what is good and right. Because of the robust energy production taking place in 11th District of Texas, our country is in a position to take a strong stand against Russia. Unlike our allies in Europe, we are not dependent upon Russia for our energy. The work that many of you who are employed by energy companies do every day is a source of American strength and security.
Service Academy Day:
On March 22nd, I will be holding my annual Service Academy Day for students who are interested in attending the service academies. The event will be held at Angelo State University, MCS Building, Room 100, 2200 Dena Drive in San Angelo from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Students will receive information about the nomination process securing academy appointments. State Champions:
Suzanne and I are very proud of the young ladies at Wall High School and Midland Classical for winning the state championships for class 2A and 3A. These state championships are an incredible accomplishment that these young ladies will remember for the rest of their lives. The below photographs are from the San Angelo Standard-Times and the Midland Reporter-Telegram.
San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo:
Suzanne and I had a great time this weekend at the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo. In the photograph on the left, I am at the premium sale with State Representative Drew Darby, and Daryl and Doyle Schniers. In the photograph on the right, I am handing tie down roping world champion Trevor Brazile his pigging string. Suzanne took both photographs.
Lamesa Community Luncheon:
On Monday March 10th, I will be participating in the Lamesa Community Luncheon. This luncheon will be held at Forest Park Community Center and I hope you join me there. I am looking forward to having a chance to talk with people about the issues that are important to them.
As always, you can follow me on
Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
Sincerely,

Rep. Mike Conaway, 11th District
