Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and Texas.
TEXAS INDEPENDENCE DAY
Last Saturday, we remembered and paid tribute to those who fought -- and died -- for a free Texas. I joined fellow Texans in celebrating Texas Independence Day at a parade and festival in Granbury. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this wonderful event.
TOWN HALLS
I will be holding a town hall in Midland on Monday, March 11. This public event will be held from 2-3 p.m. at Polo Park Estates, 2100 Castleford Road, Midland.
I hold many town halls throughout the year and encourage you to attend one near you. For an updated schedule of my town halls, please visit and bookmark https://conaway.house.gov/townhalls/default.aspx.
WHITE HOUSE TOURS CANCELED
The White House announced this week that all public tours will be canceled effective tomorrow, March 9, due to sequestration cuts. The administration's decision to close the doors of the People's House to the public instead of cutting elsewhere is extremely disappointing, particularly in light of this quote from first lady Michelle Obama:
"This is really what the White House is all about. It’s the 'People’s House.' It’s a place that is steeped in history, but it’s also a place where everyone should feel welcome. And that's why my husband and I have made it our mission to open up the house to as many people as we can."
However, while the White House may be closed to the public, the Capitol is not. House leaders and operations managers have planned for the possibility of sequestration, and other programs have been cut within the Capitol complex to ensure the building remains open to public tours and visitors.
If you are interested in scheduling a tour of the Capitol during your visit to Washington, please call my D.C. office at (202) 225-3605. Please call at least several weeks in advance to ensure best availability.
Thank you for reading my newsletter, and I look forward to seeing you at one of my events in 2013. As always, you can follow me on
Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
Sincerely,

Rep. Mike Conaway, 11th District
