Conaway Chronicle: President Trump's Address to Congress, Passing the SCRUB Act, First Steps Towards Reversing WOTUSHosting Guest Chaplain Harvey Klee

Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and the 11th District.

President Trump's Address to Congress

Tuesday night, we heard President Trump's first address to a Joint Session of Congress. His message spoke volumes about his hopes for our nation, including plans for repairing our healthcare system, the need for tax reform, and his gratitude for the men and women serving our nation in the military. In case you missed the speech, you can watch it by clicking here

Passing the SCRUB Act

Wednesday, I voted to pass H.R. 998, the Searching for and Cutting Regulations that are Unnecessarily Burdensome (SCRUB) Act of 2017. The SCRUB Act provides us with an independent review process to identify outdated and overly burdensome regulations, and helps the repeal of these regulations move forward.

For the last 140 years, the federal government has allowed new regulations to be piled on as inane, archaic regulations remain in place by default, because agencies have been unwilling to peel back the layers of rules that their predecessors have put in place. The Retrospective Regulatory Review Commission’s sole purpose will be to sift through the more than one million regulatory restrictions that are currently in place, and make recommendations for repeals. This Commission is a welcome change to rid our nation of many of the absurd, job-killing regulations that were added during the eight years of Barack Obama’s presidency.

First Steps Towards Reversing WOTUS

Over the past eight years, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers have repeatedly ignored the concerns of our nation’s farmers and ranchers in their quest to implement the controversial Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule. This week, President Trump ordered the EPA and the Army Corps of Engineers to begin dismantling the WOTUS rule. I applaud President Trump for taking the first steps towards fixing this egregious example of regulatory overreach.

Hosting Guest Chaplain Harvey Klee

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to host American Legion Chaplain Harvey Klee as a Guest Chaplain for the House of Representatives. Chaplain Klee gave a beautiful invocation, calling for us all to be unified in our actions, with the best interest of the American people at heart. Chaplain Klee has dedicated himself to living by those words, serving our nation and its people in many ways.

Chaplain Klee is a constituent of the 11th district, and after he led us in prayer, I had the opportunity to show him around the Capitol building. Speaker Paul Ryan and House Chaplain Patrick Conroy even made guest appearances to say hello!

As always, you can follow me on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
