Conaway Chronicle: Last Week in Texas, Tax Reform Outline Announced, San Angelo Texas Honored by APA
Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and the 11th District.
Last Week in Texas
Last week was a whirlwind week across the 11th District. We held five town hall meetings, three agriculture tours, and hosted Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue for a visit. One of the best parts of my job is the opportunity to drive across all 29 counties of our district and hear what's on your minds. To take a closer look at what we did last week, click here.
Tax Reform Outline Announced
This week, President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans outlined the framework for the tax reform package we're working on this fall. Our goals are to simply the tax code, saving all Americans time and money. We'll cut taxes for hardworking middle-class families, and create a larger "zero tax bracket" for lower income individuals and families so those struggling to make ends meet won't have to pay a dime in taxes.
Under the Republican plan, we're doubling the standard deduction- the first $12,000 for all individuals and $24,000 for all couples will be entirely tax free. The Child Tax Credit will also be increased and expanded. We'll reduce the number of tax brackets to three and allow most Americans to securely file their taxes on a postcard, making the tax code easier to follow without an army of accountants and financial advisors to help navigate it. This will put all Americans on an even playing field.
We're also planning to repeal the Death Tax, allowing families to pass down their family farms and businesses without focing their children to pay double taxes on their family's estate. Death should not be a taxable event, and this tax reform package will make sure that it's not.

San Angelo Texas Honored by APA
Congratulations to San Angelo, Texas for being recognized as one of the 2017 Great Places in America by the American Planning Association. The Concho River Walk was designated as a "Great Public Space of Texas for 2017," along with five other Texas locations. The River Walk is one of the many beautiful places to visit in the 11th District, and I'm glad the American Planning Association agrees!
