Thank you for reading The Conaway Chronicle, a review of my activities in Congress and the 11th District.

Sanctuary Cities Endanger our Communities

Thursday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 3009, the Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act. Currently, there are nearly 300 jurisdictions that have designated themselves as “Sanctuary Cities,” and are refusing to enforce our nation’s immigration laws. This bill prevents those cities from receiving specific federal grants until they begin enforcing the law.

Sanctuary cities are endangering the lives of American citizens by not following the law. This legislation is a good start towards enforcing the law, but doesn’t permanently solve the much larger issue: our nation’s immigration laws are not being enforced and the president is turning a blind eye. Unfortunately, the President’s disregard for the law has led to preventable tragedies across the country. We need to enforce the laws that are in place for a very good reason: to keep our families and communities safe. This bill is just one piece of the plan that will be put forth by the Republican-controlled Congress to address our broken immigration system.

Teletown Hall Meetings

Thanks to all who participated in my teletown hall meeting last night! I really appreciate you taking the time to let me know what issues are most important to you. To sign up for future teletown halls, you can fill out this form on my website.

More Atrocities from Planned Parenthood

Last week, I talked about the abhorrent video that was released showing a Planned Parenthood doctor discussing how to dismember a baby in order to ‘harvest’ its body parts for sale. This week, another video surfaced, in which the president of the Planned Parenthood's medical director council is on camera negotiating the cost of a baby's organs. It is utterly gruesome and shameless.

In response, I have joined a number of my colleagues in introducing legislation that would make absolute certain that not a single cent of taxpayer funding goes to any division of Planned Parenthood. We also sent a letter to the Department of Justice asking for a full investigation into Planned Parenthood's illegal sale of fetal tissue. I will do everything in my power to make sure the perpetrators of these unconscionable acts are held accountable.

Stopping through Notrees, Texas

Notrees, Texas, on State Highway 302, is twenty-one miles northwest of Odessa. The town of Notrees had one native tree before construction of a large gas plant forced its removal. When Charlie Brown opened a grocery store in the town in 1946, he named the town Notrees. I drove by the Notrees sign on Monday, and stopped to take a picture.
