Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., MD, offered several amendments during the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee markup of 18 bills. Two of the amendments he submitted and discussed aimed to ensure that veterans retain access to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in light of the significant cuts proposed by Republicans to these programs. Both amendments were rejected, with every Republican on the committee voting against them.

Herb Conaway Jr., MD (D-NJ), Salud Carbajal (D-CA), and Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) introduced the VA DATA Act of 2025, which aims to prohibit DOGE from accessing veteran data at the VA and establish guidelines for special government employees regarding access to VA data.

Herb Conaway Jr., MD (D-NJ), and Mark Pocan (D-WI), along with Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Andy Kim (D-NJ), led 137 of their Democratic colleagues in a bicameral letter to Acting Secretary of Labor Vince Miccone, expressing serious concerns regarding reports that Elon Musk and DOGE are being granted access to the Department of Labor’s internal systems and data.
