Conaway on the Anniversary of the October 7th Attack

October 7, 2025

Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., MD released the following statement marking the anniversary of the October 7th attack.

“Two years ago today, the world witnessed a horrific attack carried out by Hamas against Israel. On October 7, 2023, 1,200 lives were lost, including 46 American citizens, and more than 250 individuals were taken hostage. It was the deadliest single-day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust, a staggering and painful reminder of the dangers of violent extremism.

“While more than 100 hostages have since been released, many families remain in anguish, awaiting the safe return of their loved ones. My heart is with them, and with all those grieving irreparable losses. I remain committed to doing everything in my power to support efforts that bring the remaining hostages home.

“As we continue to remember that fateful day, we cannot ignore Israel’s military response in Gaza, which has resulted in staggering civilian casualties and widespread displacement. Over 41,000 Palestinians have died, thousands more have been wounded, and Gaza’s population now faces an overwhelming humanitarian crisis.

“The suffering on both sides of this conflict is undeniable. Israelis and Palestinians alike deserve safety, dignity, and the opportunity to determine their own futures. We must reject antisemitism, just as we reject all forms of hate, and renew our commitment to peace. I urge all parties to swiftly implement the American peace plan to end the war, bring the hostages home, deliver aid to Gaza, and set the Middle East on a path that prevents further tragedy and creates the conditions necessary for a lasting two-state solution to take root.”
