Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., MD Statement on the NJ Transit Rail Strike
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Herb Conaway Jr., MD, released that following statement on the NJ Transit rail strike that started last night:
“The NJ Transit rail system is a vital part of everyday life in New Jersey. Each day, thousands of New Jerseyans rely on it—whether it's to commute to work or visit family across the state. The rail system offers a convenient and cost-effective way to travel. However, with no agreement reached, the system has been completely shut down.
“I fully support the NJ Transit rail workers right to strike for a fair deal. While we cannot allow the strike to continue indefinitely, I believe any agreement must prioritize the workers and their rights as well as working families who rely on NJ Transit. The men and women who make up the NJ Transit rail system deserve to be treated with respect and dignity for the essential service they provide to New Jerseyans every day.
“I’m actively monitoring the negotiations and will receive regular updates on any potential agreement. I am confident that an agreement will be reached that will provide lasting financial prosperity for NJ Transit rail workers. I am hopeful that a deal can be reached quickly because every day New Jerseyans are counting on it.”
